Thank you for your interest in participating in the "Post Adoption Contact in Foster Care Adoptions" study.

This study is being conducted as part of a Master's thesis by Michelle Roberts, a graduate student in the School of Family and Consumer Sciences at Eastern Illinois University.

Purpose : This research is being conducted to examine openness in foster care adoptions.

The study will examine three areas:

  • 1. What degree of openness exists in adoptions finalized through the public child welfare system?
  • 2. How satisfied are adoptive parents with the level of openness in their child's adoption?
  • 3. What role do child welfare agencies play in promoting, encouraging, facilitating and/or educating adoptive parents in post adoption contact?
You are eligible to participate in this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • 1. You adopted a child through a state child welfare agency or agency contracted with the state (also known as "foster care adoption").
  • 2. Your child was adopted in 1998 or later.
  • 3. You were not related (by blood or marriage) to the child you adopted.

Please do not take this survey if you do not meet the above criteria. If you have questions about whether you meet the criteria, please contact the researcher at the address below. Thank you!

Participants in this study will be asked to complete a short survey regarding their adoption experience. The survey is expected to take about 10 minutes.

All surveys will be anonymous and contain no identifying information.

The results will be posted on this website after December 15, 2009.
